Oscar Night: My Viewing Party

As movie lovers, watching the Academy Awards is especially exciting for my boyfriend and I, and we love to make a night of it- complete with loads of snacks, games and drinks to enjoy the 3-hour long show. Thanks to Bigelow Tea, this year's festivities were a bit larger, and definitely more fun!  We invited some of our family members over, and started the night by watching a few of the films that were nominated this year. We tend to pick a theme for our viewing parties, and this year our theme was Life of Pi (our favorite!), so I knew I wanted to pick snacks and drinks that were on the lighter side. Life of Pi is such an incredible story with beautiful visuals, and I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it.

We headed to Walmart for party supplies, and got ready for the big night. Be sure to take a look at my shopping experience on Google+ here. I wasn't sure of the entire menu for the night, but I knew for sure I wanted to include Bigelow tea. I've been drinking Bigelow since I was a child, and I remember my mom always having a few boxes in the cupboard at home. I typically have a cup of Mint Medley in the morning (just like my mom did), but one of my favorite things is iced green tea. I thought it would be perfect for our Life of Pi theme, so I knew I had to pick up a box in store.

I sent out a few invites to our guests beforehand, and set out a few to add to the decor.
I also got a little festive with my nails, and chose a bright red mani for the occasion.

I love the flavor of the green tea on its own, but I added a few lemon wedges to pitcher I made to give it a stronger flavor.
I knew we needed Oscar Ballots for everyone to guess who would win, and these from How About Orange were perfect! I placed them on the table for everyone to grab along with a  green tea lemonade as they walked in. I was so excited that Life of Pi was nominated in 11 categories, and I guessed it would win Best Picture or Best Director for sure.
We laid out movie-style popcorn, mini egg rolls and popcorn chicken (which went so quickly, I didn't get a chance to photograph it!). We also had sweet and sour dipping sauce to go along with with appetizers.

For dessert, we went with a delicious red velvet "Red Carpet" cake, and movie style boxes of candy.
I of course stole a piece of cake immediately after taking the above photo! I felt a little guilty, but was so worth it.

After the red carpet, we headed upstairs to watch the show. Most of my predictions were correct, and I was so excited to see Life of Pi take home 4 awards (the most of any movie that night!) The show was pretty long, but I'm so glad we had the chance to see our favorites win. We'll definitely have to continue the tradition next year!

To celebrate Life of Pi, Bigelow Tea is also running a contest for incredible prizes (the grand prize includes a blue-ray player), so be sure to enter on their Facebook page here. You can also check out the Bigelow website for more information. And if you haven't seen Life of Pi, be sure to purchase the DVD or Blu-Ray at Walmart when it hits stores on March 12th.

  1. I'd steal a piece of the cake too! I was in my coconut brownies as soon as we cut them for our party. :)

  2. What a great idea adding more lemons to the green tea to make a green tea lemonade..sounds delicious. I love that you did your nails too. Usually when I'm having a part I forget details like that until it's too late!
