Revlon is one of my favorite beauty brands, so I was excited to be given the opportunity to take part in the Revlon Expression Experiment! It's awesome that Revlon is encouraging women to empower themselves by simply changing their makeup!
I'm definitely more of a natural makeup kinda girl, and my go-to face is a "no makeup look" - lots of lashes, minimal (if any) foundation and a nude glossy lip. But for this experiment, I wanted to break out of my comfort zone. I loved that I was sent two of the brightest lip colors that I would never pick out for myself. Admittedly, I was convinced that I couldn't rock a bold red lip for two reasons. For one, I'm quite shy and there's no hiding with a red lip! And I haven't found a red that I thought was right for my skin tone.
The two colors I used to create the look below are the Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Fire + Ice, and the Revlon Colorburst lip gloss in Fire. Both appear to have a warm, orange-red tone and look great on my skin tone. I also think the the color is universal and would work on a variety of skin tone. The finish of the lip color is really creamy, and not completely matte which I like. I added a dap of the lip gloss over it to create a more intense look. The lip gloss isn't sticky, and both lasted about a good 4 hours before I needed a touchup.
It was a really relaxed day, so I tied a cute polka-dot scarf around my afro, put on my favorite cat-eye sunnies, and let my red lips do the talking!
For the second part of the experiment, I was so excited to receive a Colorstay nail polish in Indigo Night. The vibrant blue is perfect to wear right now, but I know I'll also reach for this deep shade in the Fall and Winter seasons. I love how easily the formula is to apply, and the color payoff is amazing! I only applied one coat to achieve what you see below.
